Today, I wanted to share a deeply personal chapter of my life, one that reflects the power of embracing alternative approaches to healing.

In light of Mental Health Awareness Month, I believe it is essential to shed light on the transformative journey I embarked on after a cancer diagnosis six years ago.

When cancer uprooted my foundation, I found myself grappling with overwhelming emotions and anxiety.

It was during this challenging time that I contemplated returning to my previous anti-anxiety medication as a means of finding stability.

For about a week, I cautiously resumed the medication, hoping it would alleviate some of the emotional turmoil I was experiencing.

However, in the midst of my contemplation, my son, a constant source of inspiration and support, reminded me of the progress I had made on my journey of replacing medication with meditation. He encouraged me to explore alternative options, including cannabis.

To my surprise, my oncologist had already written me a prescription for cannabis, recognizing its potential benefits for cancer patients.

Intrigued by the possibilities, I delved into the research surrounding cannabis and its potential role in supporting mental and physical well-being.

I stumbled upon a study cited on a reputable cancer website that highlighted how CBD, a compound found in cannabis, had exhibited promising results in killing breast cancer cells in rats.

This revelation fueled my curiosity and desire to explore the potential benefits of cannabis as part of my healing journey.

With caution and careful consideration, I decided to give cannabis a try. Under the guidance and support of my healthcare team, I began incorporating CBD products into my daily routine.

I found that CBD helped ease my anxiety, promote a sense of calmness, and enhance my overall well-being.

Cannabis became an essential part of my self-care regimen, complementing my meditation practice and supporting my mental health.

While my experience with cannabis may not be the same for everyone, it opened my eyes to the potential of alternative approaches in promoting healing and well-being. It was a personal choice, made after thorough research, consultation with my healthcare professionals, and recognition of the potential benefits for my unique circumstances.

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, I share this part of my journey to emphasize the importance of exploring alternative options in mental health care. Each individual’s path to healing is unique, and it is crucial that we consider a wide range of approaches to find what works best for us.

I encourage you to approach your own mental well-being with an open mind and a willingness to explore alternative options under the guidance of trusted healthcare professionals.

By embracing the potential benefits of alternative approaches, we can expand our horizons and discover new paths to healing and self-discovery.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. May it inspire you to consider alternative approaches to mental health care and empower you to find the path that resonates with your unique journey.

Wishing you a month filled with compassion, understanding, and holistic well-being.
